Customizing Icons for the Design Workspace

The Design Workspace in the Design Assistant displays a default icon for each element of a design—paths, work locations, assigned feature types, and each type of assigned unit (macro units, compatible units, materials, and custom costs). With either custom code or modifications to the Icon Index value in the database, the administrator can override the default icon and select a different icon for a particular design element.

Configuring these assignment icons does not affect the icons displayed for units, materials, and custom costs in Bentley OpenUtilities Designer’s Units view or the Units Catalog of the Design Assistant or the Unit Assistant.

The assignment icons delivered with Bentley OpenUtilities Designer include the following bitmap files, which are stored in the Image\AssignmentIcons folder:

  • PathIcons.bmp
  • WorkLocationIcons.bmp
  • WorkLocationFacilityIcons.bmp
  • CompatibleUnitAssignmentIcons.bmp
  • MaterialItemAssignmentIcons.bmp
  • CustomCostAssignmentIcons.bmp

Each bitmap file contains the default icon as well as configurable alternatives. Customer-created icons can also be added to the files.

The appropriate icon in each bitmap file is referenced by the corresponding IconIndex value in the following tables:

  • Path
  • WorkLocation
  • WorkLocationFacility
  • Compatible Unit
  • CompatibleUnitAssignment
  • MaterialItem
  • MaterialItemAssignment
  • CustomCostItem
  • CustomCostAssignment

The index value indicates the position of the icon in the bitmap file (from left to right: 0, 1, 2, 3, etc.).
